Technical: Can I Adobe?
3/4/2020
Ok really, can I? Well, sort of, not quite yet.
Part of our design work necessitates both digitising images, and producing digital images. Something I have... well, no real experience with, so the learning curve was steep.

This project was Poster 2 for Design 101, a movie poster. I started off with a hand drawn picture, selected from sketches done during a Design 101 studio session. That picture was first scanned, then imported into Adobe Illustrator. It was here that trouble began. A long process of tutorials, googling and fiddling around with tools allowed me to isolate the drawn parts of my image that I actually needed.

The first really challenging thing was 'cutting out' the desired parts of the picture in Illustrator. This took a long time, as tutorials often didn't necessarily relate to the specific task I was trying to achieve. Although I was able to cut out my image in Illustrator, I discovered (through more fiddling, trial and error. I'll admit, mostly error) that I'd need to import the new file into Adobe Photoshop, in order to work with colour and shapes the way I wanted to. So I saved what I had so far as a .psd file, and brought it over.
The next step was to begin changing colour. I started with tutorials (Nace, A. 2015), trying to get different tools to isolate and change the colour of my image. But in the end what worked for me at that time, was simply paint bucketing the crap out of it. (...elegant, I know.)

trying to use an adjustment layer, I got everything to work, right up until actually changing the colour!
Once I had my picture, correctly coloured, I was set. Now I could start playing around with different layouts and designs for this poster. Mostly this meant compositional changes, although I hav also played with a few other simple tools like the brushes so far. So can I Adobe? Well, it's a start, but I've still got a long way up the learning curve to go.
